2. Mineral treatment. A professional-grade mineral treatment is applied to the affected areas. This isn't vinegar — it's a formulated mineral solvent that breaks the calcium bond with the glass. It needs dwell time to work, which is why this takes longer than a standard clean.

3. Agitation and rinse. The treatment is worked in gently with a soft applicator — never an abrasive pad. Abrasive pads and razor blades in untrained hands scratch glass worse than the stain did. The pane is rinsed thoroughly before the treatment dries.

4. Purified water rinse and detail. A final rinse with purified, deionized water leaves no mineral residue behind. The perimeter of each pane is detailed dry where water likes to hide in the edges and frames.

What Not to Do (DIY Mistakes That Make It Worse)

  • Vinegar spray — Mildly acidic, dissolves very light fresh spots, but household vinegar is too weak for hardened scale. Soaks the top layer and leaves the rest.
  • Razor blade scraping — Scratches glass. One pass with a blade on mineral deposits can leave permanent score marks worse than the stain.
  • Abrasive pads (steel wool, scouring pads) — Creates micro-scratches that catch light and make the glass look worse. Fine steel wool (#0000) on wet glass is the only safe exception, and only on uncoated glass.
